NY-16 Nautilus was purchased by Frank
McCaffery in 1988, the founder of Narragansett Shipwrights.
Nautilus
was to undergo an extensive re-fit under Frank's watchful
eye as a personal craft for his enjoyment. At that time she
had a marconi rig and a highly modified cabin house and deck
layout. Over a period of 15 years, progress was made on her
during the summer months. Sadly, Frank fell ill and was unable
to complete the project before his passing.
The boat was sold to Bill Pedersen who contracted Narragansett
Shipwrights under the direction of Jim Titus to complete the
project. She is now fully restored to original rig and deck
layout. As Bill is a renowned architect he chose to redesign
the interior for a more open feeling and the ability to see
fully fore and aft below decks. Other modifications include
a standing binnacle holding the compass at eye level and deck
prisms. Nautilus
is beautifully maintained, she competes in local classic races
and occasionally visits Newport to compete with Amorita
and Cara
Mia.
